Grilled Bacon and Provolone Cheese Sandwich with Blackberry Jam
Grilled Bacon and Provolone Cheese Sandwich Recipe with Blackberry Jam
Want to spice up your boring grilled cheese sandwiches? Then why not try this grilled bacon and provolone cheese sandwich sweetened up with the added blackberry jam.
Grilled cheese sandwiches are one of my and my children’s favorite warm sandwich. They are buttery, flakey and oh so cheesy. Of course, the basic staple grilled cheese is usually American cheese stacked in between two pieces of white bread loaded with butter. My grilled bacon and provolone cheese sandwich had an added salty bacon strips plus a more “adult” cheese and then slapped with a healthy helping of blackberry jam. The jam gives it a sweet flavor that goes great with the salty bacon and smoky provolone cheese.
This sandwich is almost a mock of a Monte Cristo. Well, it has very similar features like a Monte Cristo sandwich. It is absolutely delicious and worth a try to make for a fast and delightful dinner or lunch. You can also use it with my amazing homemade blackberry jam and vanilla blackberry lavender jam made for water bath canning.
This sandwich was a complete hit with the entire family. I made it for dinner one evening when I was running out of time.
Cost of this recipe.
I have calculated this recipe costing around $7.60 for four unique grilled cheese sandwiches. This price doesn’t include any side dishes so that would increase the price of the meal if added.
The majority of the cost comes from the bacon and provolone cheese. We can’t reduce those prices from ourselves because we, unfortunately, don’t make these on the homestead.

Grilled Bacon and Provolone Cheese Sandwith with Blackberry Jam
Basic grilled cheese sandwich with provolone cheese, bacon, and jam.
In a large skillet, cook bacon slices completely. Take out of pan, pat remaining grease off and set aside.
Set up sandwiches by spreading blackberry jam on four pieces of bread. Top with cheese and bacon slices and put on remaining slices of bread to complete four sandwiches.
Spread softened butter or margarine on top of each sandwich bread and grill in large skillet over medium-high heat on butter side down. While that is cooking, spread butter over slices of bread that is facing up now. Flip over when bread is brown to cook other slice of bread.
Take out of skillet and put on a plate. Let sandwich sit for about 1-2 minutes before cutting in half. This helps to set up cheese so it doesn’t spill out of sandwich.
