American Pound Cake Recipe- A Sara Lee Brand Copycat
Oh boy, how I love some great and tasty pound cake. It makes a perfect after-dinner dessert or mid-afternoon snack. The buttery sweet, dense cake, or the all-American pound cake, goes with just about everything. You can top this pound cake with chocolate syrup, fruit like strawberries, fresh whipping cream, ice cream, stone fruits, the list goes on and on.
This recipe, which I named, the Classic American pound cake, can be a little misleading. It is a plain vanilla butter pound cake that mimics the store-bought Sara Lee brand. There are several varieties of pound cakes to chose to bake and enjoy. This one is different than the rest because of the dry milk powder used in the batter. My German variety Sandkuchen uses a large amount of cornstarch in its mix. And then you have whipping cream pound cake made with, you guessed it, heavy whipping cream something that is not typically in your average pound cake.
Cost to make this recipe.
Two dollars for the butter is a huge portion of this recipe cost. I calculated the total to make this recipe to be about $5.57 or about $0.35 per serving slice. There aren’t too many ingredients I can make, grow, or raise that will reduce the cost significantly. We raise our eggs, but that cost can fluctuate every year.
