Crochet Farmers Market Bag Pattern
I love the farmers market. And yes, I do need to go for some things that I just don’t grow here on the homestead. I won’t waste time or garden space for veggies or fruit that we just don’t eat a whole lot of like eggplant or butternut squash. So I designed this crocheted mesh bag with a knitted bottom. I wanted to have the bottom knitted because I feel it is much more stronger then the crochet bottoms I have found on the internet.
This is a medium size bag. It holds about 10-14 pieces of fruits or vegetables (in the picture above I have 14 medium size oranges in the bag). When you are constructing the bag, it will look small but don’t worry the bag will stretch…and stretch…and stretch. You will be working from the bottom up. So here are my step by step instructions.
-
- 1 skein Sugar N’ Cream cotton yarn; worsted
- 5 double pointed knitting needles size 5 or 6
- 1 crochet hook size 6
- stitch markers
Cast on 3 stitches each of the 4 double pointed needles. You will have a total of 12 stitches.
Connect your round ends together. I do this by pulling the first right stitch to the left needle and the last left stitch to the right needle.
Round 1: K12
Round 2-15: K1 F/B, Knit to end of round (you should have 16 stitches on each needle at the end of the 15th round)
Round 16-20: K64
Round 21: Convert from knitting needles to the crochet hook. You will single crochet each knitted stitch off of the knitting needles. YouTube tutorial At the end of the round single crochet into the knitted stitch before the beginning of the crochet stitches
Round 22: CH 5, Skip 3, SC next stitch repeat to end of round
Round 23: CH3, SC into 1st large hole made by the previous chain stitches, CH 5, SC into next large hole made by previous round repeat to end of round
Round 24-37: CH 5, SC into next large hole made by previous round* repeat to end
Round 38: SC 2 into first large hole, SC into the single crochet joint stitch, SC 3 into large hole repeat to end of round
Round 39-41: SC 1 to end of round
Start Strap: SC 4 stitches, *turn, CH 1, SC 4* repeat to end of strap (about 64 rows) Connect strap with single crochet stitches.
Happy Crocheting from my homestead to yours!…and knitting!
