Brussels sprouts can be a tricky vegetable to please both adults and kids. However, my Maple Bacon Brussels Sprouts and Carrots side dish makes them irresistible. The natural bitterness of the sprouts is perfectly balanced by the sweet richness of maple syrup. The savory, hearty chunks of thick-cut bacon complement this balance. Tender, slightly sweet carrots complete the dish. They create a flavorful and visually appealing side that will win over even the pickiest eaters at the table.
I know when I was growing up, I was forced to eat Brussel sprouts. My stepfather loved them (still does) and we had to eat them at least once a month. They were usually boiled or microwaved and served with some margarine. Man, if only they were served like this. Then maybe my brother, sister, and I wouldn’t have put up so much of a fight to choke them down.
Cost to make recipe.
I calculated this side dish to cost around $9.61 for the entire dish or about $1.60 per serving size. This side item is a bit pricey, and that is because of the Brussel sprouts and bacon. Those little cabbage veggies run around $4.00 for a pound.
The best way to reduce the cost is to grow them yourself. As of right now, I have not grown my Brussel sprouts but plan to shortly. That way, my cost would be $5.62 or $0.94 per serving.

Maple Bacon Brussel Sprouts and Carrots
Delicious Brussel sprouts and carrots sautéed with butter, bacon and finished off with a maple syrup glaze.
Slice bacon strips into small manageable pieces and saute in a nonstick pan until bacon turns slightly crispy and fat is mostly rendered.
Without removing bacon grease, add 6 tbsp. butter and melt over medium heat.
Toss in quartered Brussel sprouts and sliced carrots. Saute the vegetables until soft, stirring often. Drain remaining grease and butter then return vegetables to hot pan.
Add in maple syrup and cook until a thick syrup sauce is made, about 5-10 more minutes. Serve hot and enjoy.
