Pear and Bacon Pizza Recipe Topped with Arugula
This is my “countrified” version of the gourmet Pear and Prosciutto pizza with Arugula. The pizza is sweetened by delicious pears. Then salted by thick smoked bacon and given an extra dimension of a bitter flavor from the fresh Arugula. This is really one of my favorite pizzas and our kids just loved it.
Now, most of the ingredients in the original version are not readily available to me living out in the country. We don’t have gourmet cheeses and butchers out here. In fact, I asked our local grocery deli attendant if they had Fontina cheese the other day and she looked at me puzzled and said , “she had never heard of such a cheese.” I am in no way knocking her or our neighbors for not knowing different types of cheese but I do have to figure out how to make my favorite recipes from the selection I have within my reach. Plus, those “special” ingredients are quite expensive so this version is much more forgiving on the old purse strings.
If you are not like me and want the original version then you can substitute bacon for prosciutto and add Gorgonzola and/or blue cheese to it. I have had this version in restaurants and know it is very good as well.

- 1 medium pear, thinly sliced…[$0.65]
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded…[$2.50]

- Top the pizza with mozzarella cheese first and then lay sliced pears evenly on top. Sprinkle cooked bacon.
- Put in the oven for about 10-15 minutes or until your dough is golden brown and the cheese has melted.
- Topped with fresh arugula and serve.
