This family adores a loaf of sweet bread. And I don’t mean the sweetbreads that consist of gullets, thymus, pancreas, or hearts of lambs, beef, or pork. No, I am referring to the normal cake-like bread made with fruits and sugars. My sweetbreads are almost the consistency of pound cake. They are so dense and thick with complete sweet deliciousness. My pie filling quick sweet bread makes no exception.
You will be using a flour cake base and a minimal amount of sugar. Reducing your white sugar in the bread will help the taste because you will be adding a can of pie filling to this bread. Pie filling is full of white sugar already, so I didn’t want to sweeten it any more than necessary.
My pie filling bread is very versatile because you can use any pie filling you have on hand or have canned over the spring and summer. I typically use my apple pie filling and home–canned peach pie filling. I would love to make this bread with other types soon.
Don’t be afraid to get creative with each of your pie filling flavors. When I make my apple pie filling, I add vanilla extract, but when I use my peach pie filling, almond extract is put in. If you find a great combination, I would love to hear about it.
Cost to make this recipe.
The cost to make this recipe from scratch could cost about $5.69 for one loaf or $0.71 per serving slice. I typically make this recipe with my homemade and home–canned apple pie filling. My loaves usually cost me roughly around $2.55 or $0.32 per serving slice; nearly half the cost.
