Schneeball Torte – German Snowball Cake Recipe
For some weird reason, my husband is not a fan of chocolate. But one day we got to talking, and he said that he would eat German chocolate cake. So I got in the kitchen the next morning and made the Schneeball torte or a German snowball cake.
The cake itself is a German chocolate batter with a marmalade or jam filling and then topped with a whipped cream frosting. Fortunately, the cake is not overly sweet due to the low sugar in German chocolate.
The marmalade and jam filling gives a unique flavor as well. Typical German desserts use an apricot filling as in Dominosteine cakes and the famous Sacher torte. I like to use what I have on hand so that I will use orange marmalade, apricot jam, or carrot pineapple marmalade.
Cost to make this recipe.
The cost of this cake recipe is about $9.36 or $1.17 per serving size. As in most baked cakes, there are not too many ingredients that we grow here on the homestead. Much of this recipe is chocolate, flour, and sugars which are all things I need to purchase from the store.
