Snowball Cookies Recipe – A Perfect Christmas Cookie
Snowball cookies are some of the easiest little cookies to make. Just whip up all the ingredients together and form small tablespoon size ball cookies. Then roll these delicate cookies into powdered sugar after baking and enjoy.
Be sure to let the cookies cool for a few minutes before rolling in sugar. If you handle the cookies while they are hot, they will fall apart. The butter from the recipe needs to cool down for everything to hold together. I like to roll each cookie twice in powdered sugar but that is just me. Once works fine as well.
Our cost of this recipe.
I calculated the cost for this entire cookie recipe to be about $10.18 with the maraschino cherries added for about 30 small cookies. If you omit the cherries, then the price drops to $7.17 or about $0.24 per cookie. The majority of the cost comes from the butter, which is about $2.00 for two sticks of butter and also from the pecans. One pound of pecans can cost close to $10.00.
We, as homesteaders, can reduce the cost by growing our pecans. In fact, our homestead has three very large and old pecan trees that drop nuts for us every other year. Freezing fresh nuts allows us to use up the harvest throughout the winter and spring. We can make these cookies and other pecan recipes beyond the harvest season. In fact, if we make these cookies with our homegrown pecans and without cherries, then our cost comes to a total of $2.63 for the entire batch or $0.09 per cookie.
