Crochet Boxes Pattern
All over Pinterest I have found pretty pictures of laundry rooms. Wonderful wicker baskets and plastic storage bins with beautifully printed labels covered my computer screen when I went for a search a few weeks ago. I wanted to organized my mudroom/laundry room like all these women before me had but when I went online to check prices of baskets and plastic totes I almost fell off the couch. Nope, I wasn’t going to spend $12-20 for one basket, beautiful as it was.
So I decided to come up with another option, to either knit or crochet them. I decided to crochet my boxes because of two reasons; I needed more practice with my stitches and it seemed much faster. These are great and you only need to know how to do a chain and single crochet stitch.
I was able to make two boxes out of 3 skeins of yarn. I crocheted with double yarn to make them thick and sturdy. My box dimensions are 28sts. length x 17sts. width x 10sts height (10″x 6″x 4″) for box 1 and 35sts. length x 15sts. width x 12sts. height (14″x 7″x 4″) for the box 2. After crocheting both boxes, I was left with very little yarn to spare.
Below is the pattern for my second box.
3 skeins Red Heart Super Saver Worsted Yarn (I had two skeins of Cherry Chip & 1 skein White)
Crochet hook size J or K
Bottom Panel
Chain 35 stitches
*Ch1, SC to end, turn* repeat for 15 rows
Bind off and set aside
Small Side Panels
Chain 15 stitches
*Ch1, SC to end, turn* repeat for 12 rows
Bind off and set aside
Large Side Panels
Chain 35 stitches
*Ch1, SC to end, turn* repeat for 12 rows
Bind off and set aside
Connect all pieces to bottom panel with a single crochet stitch on the outside of the box. I guess you can crochet on the inside of the box but I liked the look of the border.
Now connect the side panels with a single crochet stitch on the outside of the box.
Lastly, I knotted all the leftover yarn ends together if they were next to each other. It just helped to secure it better.
If you want, you can use diluted white glue to stiffen the yarn by painting it on the bottom, sides, and underneath and letting it dry for about a day.
Hope you liked this project…Happy Crocheting!
