Sweet Potato Turkey Nuggets Recipe
Sweet potato turkey nuggets have become the newest favorite dinner entree in this household. Our youngest has been in a nugget frenzy. Every time we ask, “want would you like to eat?” The answer we get is “chicken nuggets, duh!” So as the awesome mom I am, I have come up with some great, unique, and healthy versions of nuggets.
This one happens to be a turkey nugget that tastes amazing for both kids and adults. They are made with some basic and simple ingredients packed with vitamins and lean ground turkey for protein. You can not buy these ‘one of a kind’ nuggets at a fast food joint or in the grocery store.
These nuggets were originally made by frying in oil. You can also air fry these nuggets by sprinkling them with a light oil mist and cooking them in an air fryer appliance or just baking them in the oven. The taste might be a little different, but still seriously delicious.
You can also use any of your favorite dipping sauces. Ketchup, sweet chili sauce, barbecue sauce, and many others taste fantastic together with these nuggets. Test them out and let me know what you pair your nuggets.

Sweet Potato Turkey Nuggets
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground turkey, …[$4.00]
- 1 large sweet potato, …[$0.50]
- ½ large onion, chopped…[$0.25]
- 2 tsp. ground thyme, …[$0.10]
- 1 tsp. garlic powder, …[$0.05
- 1 tsp. salt, …[$0.07]
- ½ tsp. black pepper, …[$0.46]
- 1-2 cups breadcrumbs, plain…[$0.60]
- 1-2 cups Oil, veggie, canola, or peanut…[$0.76]
Instructions
- Peel and chop sweet potato and onion. Place potatoes and onion in a medium size pot, cover with water and boil until potatoes are soft. Drain water and mash potatoes with onion. Set aside to let cool.
- In a large bowl blend together ground turkey and seasonings. When cool, add mashed sweet potatoes. Make sure potatoes are cooled off otherwise they will cook the raw ground turkey.
- Spoon meat mixture in nugget size and form small nugget patties. Toss in breadcrumbs on both sides and set aside until all nuggets are formed and made.
- Heat up oil on medium heat in a large frying pan. Lightly fry nuggets until golden brown on both sides; about 2-3 minutes on each side.
