Streusel Topped Apple Pie Baked French Toast Recipe
Apple pie made into anything is my family’s favorite thing to eat. Once I do my due diligence in canning my apple pie filling then sky’s the limit. We have several apple pie filling recipes, and my apple pie baked French toast breakfast casserole topped in a crunchy streusel is only one of them.
I made this a little while back for a weekend breakfast, and it was a complete hit with everyone. It was quite delicious and not too overly sweet. I didn’t add any sugar to the milk and egg mixture, which the bread soaks in as I do in some of my other baked French toast casseroles. You get a lot of sugar from the apple pie filling and in the streusel topping. There is no need to add more.
Also, if you don’t make your apple pie filling, then the store-bought variety will work just as well.
Another small tip, if you are making a smaller batch of this recipe and have leftover apple pie filling, you can try my Pie Filled Coffee Cake or Pie Filling Cake. Both are fantastic and help to not waste any delicious ingredients.
Cost to make this recipe.
I calculated the baked French toast to cost roughly $4.37 or $0.55 per serving size. As homesteaders, I make my apple pie filling with apples that come from our trees in the backyard. The cost of my apple pie filling is the same cost in this recipe. So if you purchase the filling in the store then your cost may vary.
