Barbecue Turkey and Sweet Potato Meatloaf Recipe
Probably one of the best meatloaf recipes I have ever made. No joke! This one is utter perfection when it comes to a loaf of meat. My barbecue turkey and sweet potato meatloaf may sound a bit crazy but hang in.
It is fantastic and used with other leftover recipes. The recipe I have written out states that you need a one large, fresh sweet potato to boil in turkey stock and then puree. If you have about 2 cups of leftover mashed sweet potatoes from another dinner, then you can use that instead of making fresh. Heat it with 1/4 cup of turkey or chicken stock. Don’t forget the garlic and the onions though. That is what makes it.
My sweet potato meatloaf made with two kinds of meat as well. I used ground turkey and ground beef. The ground turkey is soft, and the meatloaf will fall apart if it didn’t have the added ground beef. The two meat combination is outstanding.
The barbecue part of the is entree comes from the barbecue sauce. You can buy your favorite store-bought brands, or you can make your own. I love to make my barbecue sauces. I have a great variety of homemade sauces I like for a number of recipes. But a basic barbecue sauce works perfectly for this meatloaf recipe.
Cost to make recipe.
This recipe serves only as an entree. I have rounded up the cost to about $13.00 for the entire meatloaf. This entree makes about eight serving slices which comes to about $1.62 per slice. Adding extra side dishes will likely increase your entire plate cost unless you grow them in the garden.
As a homesteader I can grow a lot of the ingredients. The onions, garlic, sweet potato, and eggs are all grown here which can save some on this recipe. We also make our own barbecue sauce and breadcrumbs from bread loaf ends. Unfortunately, the bulk of the cost comes from ground meats.
