Dijon Mustard Recipe for Water Bath Canning
Did you know Dijon mustard is a style of mustard which originated in the Dijon region of France? I didn’t know that and found out when I started researching canning mustard recipes. My Dijon mustard is like regular mustard except for one main ingredient, an excellent white wine.
This recipe is a great and versatile. It can be smothered on sandwiches, baked over chicken, or served with a good sausage.

The recipe makes approximately six jelly jars and costs roughly $5.45 or $0.91 per jelly jar. Some ingredients can affect the cost of this mustard. The price of your wine and if you grow and make garlic and onion powder your self.

Ingredients
- 1 cup yellow mustard seeds, …[$2.31]
- 1½ cup white wine, …[$2.63]
- ½ cup water, …[$0]
- ½ cup apple cider vinegar , or white vinegar…[$0.19]
- 1 tbsp. onion powder, …[$0.18]
- 1 tsp. garlic powder, …[$0.05]
- 1 tsp. salt, …[$0.09]
Instructions
- Grind 1 cup of dry mustard seed in a grinder or pestle and mortar until you obtain more of a powder form.
- In a quart mason jar, combine all ingredients together, stir, and cover to set overnight for mustard seeds to rehydrate.
- Prepare water bath canner, equipment, and jars with lids and rings.
- Next day, blend all ingredients in a blender until thick and smooth. Pour mixture into large sauce pot and heat up.
- Ladle mustard into hot jelly jars with a ½ inch headspace, de-bubble jar, wipe rims, put on lid and rings, and process for 10 minutes.
