Grease a 8x8 casserole dish and put ⅓ of tore up bread on bottom.
Soften cream cheese in bowl, add powdered sugar and vanilla. Blend until smooth. Spread ⅓ of cream cheese mixture over first layer of bread.
Cut up strawberries and put down a handful. If working with frozen strawberries, cut when they are slightly frozen still.
Add another layer of bread, cream cheese, strawberries for two more layers.
In a large bowl, blend eggs, half & half, and sugar. Pour over bread and strawberry dish. Pour slowly, the egg mixture will spill out if you go too fast.
In another large bowl, melt butter and add cookie crumbs and flour. Mix until crumbly.
With your hands, crumble cookie mixture on top of the French toast, cover and put in refrigerator.
In the morning, preheat oven to 350 °F and bake covered French toast for 1 hr.
To get a golden crust, broil on high for a few minutes. Don't take you eyes off of it.
